Okay, got the word on Thursday that we would be pouring the foundation at 5:00 am. Didn’t get home in time on Thursday to take any pics, so had to take some early on the morning of the pour. Woke up at 4:30 to the sound of a generator coming on. Woke up Brenda and told her, “May as well get up. It is going to be lit up like a runway in about 10 minutes.” As promised, it looked like daylight out that window in about 5-10 minutes. Went out to get this picture prior to the arrival of the first truck.
Then, about 5:10, the first concrete truck showed up. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed and pulled out past the forms and within 15-20 feet of the pond. That ground is very soft and as a result, he got his truck stuck, as evidenced below.
As a result, they had to dump most of his load into the bucket of a Bobcat and move it to the foundation. Once he was about empty, the Bobcat was able to pull him out of the mud for him to dump the remainder of his load. On his second trip, he was much more careful and we didn’t have any other drivers that couldn’t dump their loads without issues. Below are some pics of the process as the sun started to come up.
At about 5:00 pm, the concrete guys were finished up and left. We will have them back out for staining and for adding a stamped concrete patio. They have been great. For those who may be interested and, obviously, a bit older, one of the guys that worked for the concrete company used to play stand up bass for Bill Monroe, back in the good ol’ days.
Thanks for reading and, unfortunately, things may slow down a bit, as we don’t expect the building to arrive until late February. We are hoping for an early delivery, but can’t hang our hat on it. Will keep putting up notes on the things that we are able to complete in the interim. Thanks again!
